4EU+ Alliance

The 4EU+ Alliance is one of the University of Warsaw’s strategic initiatives. It comprises eight European research universities.
Apart from the University of Warsaw, these are: Sorbonne University, Heidelberg University, Charles University in Prague, the University of Copenhagen, the University of Milan, the University of Geneva and Paris-Panthéon-Assas University.

The 4EU+ mission is to develop a barrier-free and continuously deepening cooperation in education, research and innovation within the Alliance. Through this collaboration and working in partnerships, the Alliance serves society to the highest level with our core values, e.g. academic and research freedom, collaboration in an interdisciplinary approach, integrity, creativity and openness, and internationalisation.

The collaboration focuses on conducting world-class joint research, joint study programmes and educational offers, doctoral training, and undertaking initiatives related to innovation, technology transfer and the social responsibility of universities.
In June 2019, the European Commission (EC) announced the results of the pilot call for proposals under the Erasmus+ European Universities programme. The 4EU+ consortium was among the 17 university alliances that received funding for their projects.
In July 2022, the 4EU+ Alliance project received funding in the next edition of the European Universities competition, organised by the EC under the Erasmus+ programme. The One Comprehensive Research-Intensive European University (1CORE) project aims to further deepen cooperation between the Alliance’s universities, increase the virtual and physical mobility of students, doctoral candidates and employees, promote innovative education, and develop a shared digital infrastructure.

More than 100 joint research, education and staff competence development project proposals have been put forward, with the majority of them being rooted in the 4EU+ Flagship Programmes:

  • Urban health and demographic change;
  • Europeanness: multilingualism, pluralities, citizenship;
  • Data – Models – Transformations;
  • Environmental transitions
