Research projects lasting 24 months, conducted by scientists coming from abroad.

The competition is open to individuals who hold a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time research experience. Additionally, participants must not have resided, been employed, or studied in Poland for more than 12 months in total during the three years preceding the call for applications.

Multilateral research projects in the field of basic research, covering all fields of science, are to be implemented by an international consortium consisting of Switzerland (as the leader) and at least one partner from Poland, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, or Romania.

The MAPS competition is open to experienced researchers who have held a PhD for at least four years by the application deadline.

Multilateral research projects in the field of basic research, spanning all fields of science, are conducted in collaboration with foreign research teams from Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Belgium-Flanders. These teams simultaneously apply for funding from the relevant institutions under the Weave program to support the implementation of these projects.

The principal investigator can be anyone with at least one published or accepted work in their scientific achievements (a doctoral degree is not required). The leader of the Polish research team must be employed, under an employment contract, by the entity responsible for the Polish part of the research project for the entire duration of the project, working at least half-time. Additionally, the project manager is required to reside in the Republic of Poland for at least 50% of the project’s duration and must remain available to the entity implementing the project.

A programme for bilateral or trilateral research projects that allows Polish research teams to collaborate with counterparts from Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, or Belgium–Flanders. Proposals can be submitted either through the ongoing Weave-UNISONO call, where a foreign partner institution acts as the lead agency, or through the OPUS call, where the NCN serves as the lead agency.

Projects may include basic research in all disciplines of the sciences.

The IMPRESS-U call for proposals is addressed at research teams from Poland which will conduct joint research together with research teams from Ukraine and the United States (optionally from Lithuania, Latvia and/or Estonia) within the framework of a joint research project. National Science Foundation (NSF) is acting as the lead agency in charge of merit-based evaluation of proposals.

IMPRESS-U  is open to domestic basic research proposals for projects except humanities and medical research. Polish team leaders must have at least a doctoral degree.

The call for proposals is held until the end of 2025, but may end earlier if the pool of available funds at NCN or partner institutions is exhausted.
